Establishing the Visual Identity for Urban Arts

The visual identity for Urban Arts is built around a minimal, modern, and heritage‑inspired aesthetic that reflects the gallery’s focus on mixed‑media modern art. The design elements work together to create a calm, elegant, and recognisable brand presence that supports both the physical gallery environment and the digital experience of the mobile app.

The primary logo is a minimal wordmark using Playfair Display, chosen for its refined serif structure and strong visual presence. The clean letterforms communicate professionalism and cultural value, aligning with the gallery’s modern yet heritage‑aware identity. The secondary logo is a simplified version of the wordmark, using the initials “UA” in Playfair Display. This shorter mark is suitable for app icons, buttons, and small‑scale digital contexts where the full wordmark would be too large.

The colour palette is warm and earthy, consisting of deep green (#3f4f1e), muted gold (#b7a73a), soft orange‑beige tones (#e6a75e, #e6b67a), and an off‑white neutral (#f9f9f1). These colours create a grounded, welcoming atmosphere that reflects both contemporary design and the historical roots of Hull’s art culture. The palette also supports accessibility by offering strong contrast options for text and UI components.

The typography hierarchy uses Playfair Display for headings, Lora for body text, and Inter for UI labels and small digital elements. This combination balances elegance with readability, ensuring that the app feels modern while remaining easy to navigate.

Decorative elements include subtle line dividers, soft rounded corners, and minimal spacing patterns that reinforce clarity and structure. The UI components, such as buttons, navigation bars, and cards, use simple shapes, high contrast, and consistent spacing to support usability and reduce cognitive load.

Together, these design elements form a cohesive visual identity that enhances the user experience and supports the gallery’s mission to present modern art in a clear, accessible, and visually engaging way.
